OpenCV basic image read, write, modify, and the core module review

Now I am peeping OpenCV tutorial chapters 1, 2 contents.  Sections 1.8, 1.9 on image loading, modifying, and saving should be easy.

But Chapter 2 on the core module looks very mathematical.  I am surprised to see that the core module can do discrete fourier transform.  I learned Fourier series and Laplace transform in college, and casually read about Fourier transform and FFT some year later.  I never thought that one day I would find FFT useful.  I now wonder if I can try FFT in my toy computer vision projects.
