After understanding the discrete Fourier transformation and facial detection tricks, I now know that using the very powerful OpenCV functions, detecting a human face or 2 robot fingers is not that difficult.
So next step is a feasibility study of detecting robot fingers using Python with Pygame and OpenCV.
